The Dubai government has announced the establishment of a High Commission for Future Technologies and Digital Economy to oversee the city’s push to become a leading global hub for Metaverse technology adoption.
According to officials publication, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, will chair the committee. His appointment was made by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai.
Commenting on his appointment, Sheikh Hamdan said the prime minister’s vision for Dubai would strengthen the emirate as a leader that embraces innovative new concepts and disruptive economic and technological models.
“As a team, in line with Dubai’s Metaverse strategy, we are working to strengthen Dubai’s position as a global birthplace and laboratory for future technologies and as one of the world’s top 10 metaverse economies. I am,” he added.
This commission is empowered to design policies and analyze trends in the digital economy and future technologies.These include metaverseAI, Blockchain, Web3, Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), internet of things (IoT), data center, and cloud computing.
Its mission includes overseeing the implementation of conceived strategies, identifying future skills needed for the digital sector, advising the economic sector on the digital economy, and attracting international companies to engage in strategic partnerships with industry entities. It also includes planning to develop commercial partnerships.
Dubai positioned to be one of the top 10 metaverse economies
The creation of the commission was initiated by the government Dubai Metaverse Strategy, aims to open 40,000 new metaverse-related jobs in the emirate by 2030. This strategy will position Dubai as one of the world’s top 10 metaverse economies, generating up to $4 billion in the city’s GDP and government projects.
One of the first tasks a strategic leader performs is to Dubai Metaverse Assembly Scheduled to be held in September. The event will attract more than 300 of his Metaverse industry experts as keynote speakers on various aspects of Metaverse innovation.
The United Arab Emirates government is also actively recruiting. blockchain technology, digital assets, and the metaverse across regions. The country recently signed Signed MoU with Chainalysis to train government officials on all things blockchain technology.
